ECenter - Universtity of Kragujevac

An internal search of national capacities for the establishment of an E-center, that would form a knowledge network triangle at the University of Kragujevac, identified organizations that would potentially be involved in the establishing of the center.

Given that the purpose of the center is to create a triangle of knowledge networks between higher education institutions, medical institutions and companies active in the field of biomedical engineering, the following entities are recognized in central Serbia:

In the listed institutions, there is a large number of employees engaged in the areas whose improvement the center should deal with. Also, a number of individuals have very notable scientific results in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, engineering, bioengineering, computer science, and applied natural sciences. Guided by that information, it was decided that all the mentioned instances should participate in the establishment of the E-center.

University of Kragujevac is a state, accredited university located in the central Serbian region. It encompasses 12 Faculties and Institute for Information Technology where students may pursue programs in fields of art, social, natural, medical, technological, and technical sciences, while researchers can conduct their research in a number of research facilities at faculty levels. It has participated in a large number of international research, educational, and mobility programs, either as a coordinating or partner institution. The University continuously works on enhancing its research and innovation capacities. Both academic and administrative staff of the University actively participate in scientific and artistic research with the goal to develop and popularize science, art, and creativity, improve activities of higher education, i.e., improve the quality of teaching, train young scientists, introduce students to scientific and artistic research. The organizational structure of the Department for International Cooperation reflects the University's commitment to internationalization as one of its highest priorities. The University of Kragujevac is widely recognized in the world by its scientific results achieved in the field of biomedical engineering. There are more than 100 scientists engaged in biomedical engineering field, with base backgrounds in engineering, medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, etc. Decades of work in this field has produced one of the (inter)nationally valuable results - a program of doctoral studies in the field of biomedical engineering. The program is implemented through the University with the implementation support of the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science.

BioIRC d.o.o. Kragujevac is a research center devoted to the development of computational methods and software for various problems in engineering and bioengineering. Has more than 30 employees, most of them with PhD degree in engineering. So far BioIRC took part in more than 20 collaborative national and international projects. The research is largely based on the application of artificial intelligence and multiscale modeling in cardiovascular and cancer disease. Finite element method applied to solids, fluids, modelling of physical fields, multiphysics, and various coupled problems are used. BIOIRC achieved significant results in the field of bioengineering which are prominent at the national and international level. A large number of scientific publications and results have been issued as the result of collaboration with different national and international partners, spanning from blood flow modelling, cartilage muscle and tissue mechanics, thrombosis and plaque growth modelling, to molecular diffusion and multiscale modelling, image processing, machine learning, computer graphics.

Institute for Information Technologies Kragujevac is a state scientific institute that was founded on June 6, 2019 by the decree of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The establishing of the Institute within the University of Kragujevac has created an institutional framework for all the ambitious scientists, who will be given the chance to do research in their country, in line with world trends in their areas of interest. The Institute for Information Technologies Kragujevac integrates several scientific fields, through the application of information technologies in natural-mathematical, technical-technological, medical, biotechnical, and social sciences, which establishes closer cooperation among research groups with different research focuses and enables a significant increase of scope and quality of scientific research work and improves opportunities for multidisciplinary research. Given the trends in modern science, with the increasing influence of computer science and information and communication technologies, the mission of the Institute is to precisely this connection. The multidisciplinary approach to the research is one of the guidelines for development so that the Institute will be able to follow the development of modern science. The scientific research of the Institute is oriented towards fundamental and applied research through the program of basic research and directed basic research, the program of research in the field of technological development, and the program of knowledge and technology transfer and encouraging the application of scientific research results.

University Clinical Center Kragujevac is a highly specialized tertiary level healthcare institution, dedicated to providing quality services and meeting people's need for health care, in accordance with the requirements of modern society and positive civilizational achievements. University Clinical Center Kragujevac integrates medical education and scientific research in order to improve the quality of work. It mobilizes all its resources, trains expert and professional personnel, for the highest level of efficiency, safety and success in work, with the aim of achieving permanently higher satisfaction of users and service providers. University Clinical Center Kragujevac affirms the practical application of the most modern scientific, technological and biomedical achievements. By developing and constantly improving the activity, it reduces the risks of unwanted consequences and contributes to the improvement of the overall health of the individual and the community as a whole.
